Mel’s journey into the world of hairdressing began at a young age, igniting her passion while still in high school. Upon obtaining her qualification, she dedicated nine years to honing her craft at some of Durban’s most prestigious hair salons. In 2009, alongside her business partner Clive, They embarked on the bold venture of opening their first salon in Durban. Despite the excitement of this new chapter, they quickly realized the challenges that awaited them in the entrepreneurial landscape. Through perseverance and a commitment to learning, they navigated these obstacles, gradually shaping their vision for the salon business they dreamed of.
With a skilled team and invaluable experience, Mel’s Hair Salon expanded to three outlets. However, the onset of the 2020 pandemic and subsequent economic downturn forced them to make the difficult decision to close one of their hair salons. Yet, this setback only fueled their determination. It underscored the salon’s resilience and adaptability, affirming their capacity to thrive even in the face of adversity. As Mel’s Hair Salon continues to evolve, it remains a beacon of excellence in the industry.
